Exhibition : Christmas Exhibition - The Year of Natural Scotland
Date : 16th November – 1st December 10.00 am - 6.00pm
Venue : The Gallery, Brookvale House, Oaker, Matlock, Derbyshire DE4 2JJ.click here for directions (AA Signposted)
Details : 2013 has been officially designated The Year of Natural Scotland, and in celebration of this event Pollyanna has created a remarkable new collection of work inspired by her recent travels in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland.
Pollyanna has sketched Scottish wildlife – including red squirrels, pine martens and the elusive Scottish Wildcats – from the banks of Loch Ness to the Black isle. Previous journeys have taken her to the Isle of Skye, where she stayed in a cottage belonging to Virginia McKenna’s Born Free Foundation. This peaceful location overlooking a loch provided the ideal base for Pollyanna to sketch the wildlife including Golden eagles, Peregrines, seals and otters. Pollyanna was also invited by the Eileen Ban Trust to visit the small island on which Gavin Maxwell, author of Ring of Bright Water made his home. Here she was able to sketch in the Trust’s private otter hide. Also featured in the exhibition will be Pollyanna’s favourites – Highland Cows – animals for whom every day is a bad hair day!
The exhibition will see the exclusive launch of new limited edition prints of Scottish Wildlife.
Also on display throughout will be Pollyanna's extensive ranges of greetings cards, fine art and limited edition prints, and a wide variety of gift ware featuring her work, including stationery, china mugs, cross stitch kits, signed sets of her postage stamps issued in Africa, and first day covers for the Royal Mail. There will be over 150 Christmas card designs to choose from, including the latest charity cards published by Guide dogs for the Blind, the RSPCA, Cats Protection League, The Wildlife Trust, and Blue Cross among many others. Four new fine art calendars of her work will be available for 2014, along with a new range of eco-friendly wrapping paper and cards. Pollyanna will be on hand throughout to chat to visitors and sign copies of her popular books. Tea and coffee will be available throughout. Ten percent of all sales will donated to Conservation projects through the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation. Phone 01629 55851 for further details.

“It is rare to hear a talk that captures the essence of a place so vividly as Giant pandas and Sleeping Dragons... as close as one can get to boarding a flight to western China tomorrow and then travelling to the shrinking habitat of the Giant panda in the most easterly edge of Tibet's plateau." . . Stuart Chapman,
Conservation Officer WWF

Talk: The Red Wolves of Ethiopia

For many people Ethiopia may be most associated with the 1984 famine, but Pollyanna was drawn to the country by its unique wildlife. At heights of almost 5,000m above sea level Pollyanna and Anna-Louise had to contend with altitude sickness, thick cloud cover and freezing conditions as they searched for the world’s rarest wolves in their afro-alpine habitat. Journeying on to the walled city of Harar they risked their lives to hand- feed wild hyenas in a once in a lifetime night-time encounter.
Tickets £7.00 (to be confirmed) with all proceeds going to the charity. Refreshments available. Contact 01773 852220 for full details and to reserve your tickets.

During her first return journey to China in fifteen years, Pollyanna travelled far beyond the legendary Great Wall in search of some of the country’s most endangered species. Initially Pollyanna braved temperatures as low as -29º, journeying to the rarely visited extreme North East corner of China, in search of wild Siberian Tigers.
The most iconic animal to be found in China is of course the Giant Panda – designated a ‘National Treasure’ by the Chinese Government. Pollyanna’s main destination was The BiFengxia Giant Panda Base. Pollyanna was fortunate enough to be allowed to work closely with the pandas, even sitting quietly inside their enclosures to sketch.
This delightful talk traces her progress through China, the many fascinating people and animals she encountered, and of course shows the incredible paintings inspired by the journey.
Tickets £7.00 including refreshments. Places must be booked in advance – Telephone 01664 565351 to book or for further details.
